Flamer's CREED:
The Flamer wants to refute professional experience. He wants to establish that:
There is not much danger. Anyone can repair electrical, gas and fuel devices.
The DIY can therefore spend less money than hiring a professional.
Finding the right part to change is the cure for all problems.

I had a long discussion on another site with someone who thought his pot burner (old oil technology banned here for residential use sales for safety issues) would save the world a fortune in heating, so he argued that the 20 furnaces he inspired others to build throughout the world was the 'bees knees.' He had no clue about the century long history of oil burners in the US and why the NFPA made such long-term studies and codes. He became a combined flamer to promote his spamming. We didn't delete his posts, in order to point out the dangers and codes that ban his devices, so DIY's would be forewarned.

The bottom line - there are MANY people who come on to "save money" by DIY who will object to being told why codes exist for the safety of the public. So such arguments come up OFTEN, not caught by moderators who don't understand that safety issue, although they tend to be NICE and THOUGHTFUL, though dangerous.

Americans are often serious about saving face, so resent having safety issues pointed out that might embarass them in making poor choices. I've had flamers LIE that I told others to plug a safety valve, but that wasn't caught or corrected; though the FBI got involved over the libel issue from the written flame war.

Fortunately, leaders in office and school situations with little danger, don't confront the daily dangers of a trade; so have time to compliment and ask. Sales leadership lessons tell to ask questions and compliment in order to lead (that is a technique used by the socially aware;) but it's not a good technique to lead people away from immediate danger when there are just a few sentences in writing. That CAN lead to a lawsuit when codes are not respected by 'helpful' posters.
